Living Gay in a Straight World

By Morrell Janes

Okay so you are wondering what its like being gay. Being gay is no different than being straight. I could end there but then this would be a short article.

I get up in the morning, get my coffee and eat breakfast. So far its pretty much the same. Then I get ready for work. I put on the same kind of clothes as a straight person. I go to work and mix with straight people who most of whom has no idea I am even gay. I talk and have conversation about life like anyone would. Still pretty much the same as a straight person. Then I go home and watch television, check my emails, listen to music and talk to my friends online. So far its pretty safe to say that its not much different.

But wait, there is a slight difference. I am a guy who loves other guys. Yes I love other boyz. I do not wish to express my love with a person of the opposite sex. Why, because I have never in my entire life have felt the deep attaction to anyone of the opposite gender. Sure I have dated girls but that is what society teaches. Growing up watching other guys in my school and having feeling inside that I wanted to explore was so hard cause I never knew of anyone gay and had to surpress my feeelings for a long time. After I left my home to move thousands of miles away and found my way into the gay family it was then I was finally able to be myself and express my affections for guys just like me.

Nothing makes my heart beat faster then the love between two guys. And nothing makes me feel so happy then to see two guys in love kissing. Thats because I was born gay, despite what people may think. I wanna fall in love and be happy and wake up every morning with someone just like the way the straight world views life.

Being gay can be challenging because even though the straight world is slowing starting to accept the gay community, there is still times when we get pushed aside. Living gay in a straight world is not fun. It gives an impression that we are not normal, their idea of normality is a man and women together. A marriage to the straight world is husband and wife and most people think that a man & man or woman & woman don't deserve to get married. Television commercials with family scenes usually shows a man and women.

I am not unhuman and im not a pervert. I am not sick and I don't need my brain checked. I don't need to be rehabilitated and I don't need a counsellor. I am human just like anyone else and I know what its like to fall in love with someone and I know whats it like to have a desire to live my life with a companion by my side. I may not have all the answers but I do know that tomorrow morning when I wake up I will still be gay and the world could very well still be straight!

Metrosexual or Homosexual?

 by Morrell

Okay there is a new trend and if you haven't heard a new term has been floating around almost as much as that flamming queen you saw last weekend at your local gay bar. The term 'Metrosexual' and no I don't mean someone who is sexually active within a major city. If you spend alot of time getting dressed up with the latest fashion, use 3 or more types of hair products, spends time getting facials and your nails done then you could be Metrosexual. But wait don't we all do that? Not exactly let me try and explain the difference between Metrosexual and Homosexual.

Metrosexual is a straight male who is in touch with his feminine side. But thats not all, there seems to be a flurry of men who are now flooding nail shops, hairsalons, and even makeup stores. Looking for the right type of haircare products, nice clothes and getting the proper nail care. Let me add though, a Metrosexual man is very secure in his sexuality. He is comfortable getting a facial or a pedicure and always looks his best. The male population is changing across the world and now its getting even harder to spot that cute guy who maybe your next date. Confused, hell yeah!  I am not saying there is anything wrong with guys taking care of themselves, in fact I thinks its a real turn on that guys spend time trimming and prepping. But there is a new breed of men out there that may look gay but they are not.

Homosexual on the other hand has always been concerned with their body image and how they look. Well 90% of us anyway. We have always spent extra time in front of the mirror and trimming body parts, some of us even shave our balls. Straight men do that too! We too are in touch with our feminine side. We spend extra time with hair care products, wear fashionable clothes and usually visit a salon on a regular basis. So there really isn't any difference, except that a Metrosexual is straight.

So who are some of those Metrosexuals who has been confused as a Homosexual. Brad Pitt well most of us would like to think he is a Homo but he is Metro. Ryan Seacrest claims he is Metro but that is a tricky one, because we are still not sure yet.  PDitty he is Metro. Ricky Martin would also consider himself as Metro, once again though this one is confusing. Clay Aiken for example last year when he was auditioned for American Idol was cloned as a geek and then he went into the closet (the clothes and hair closet that is) and come out as a new man. A Metrosexual looking man!

So now we have a new world of Hetro Metro Men and the job of spotting the Homo Men maybe a little more tricky. So next time you spot that cute well dressed, over groomed and a little feminine guy across a crowded room and you think of how much you may want to take him to bed, just remember he maybe a Metro and not a Homosexual. Good luck!
